Emotional numbness
You know what you should feel. You do not feel it.
→ The volume has been turned down. It has not come back up.
- Good news lands about the same as bad news
- You feel distant from yourself rather than sad
- You are going through the motions and doing it well
- You would rather feel something difficult than nothing
What's actually happening
This is protection, not damage. There was more feeling than the system could hold, so it turned the volume down. It comes back slowly, through the body, when there is enough safety to risk it.
Practices
Start with whichever is most available to you right now. The first groups tend to work soonest; the later ones build over time.
Heart
- Heart Coherence
The baseline practice of the Heart lever — creating a state of biological safety and inner calm by directing the breath and attention to the heart centre and actively generating a feeling of genuine appreciation.
- Emotional Presence
The practice of digesting difficult emotions completely rather than suppressing or being overwhelmed by them. Meeting what is present in the emotional body with full, non- judgmental attention until it moves and releases.
- Holding Love as Vibration
Rather than directing love at someone or something, you learn to inhabit it as a self-generated state — consciously choosing to immerse yourself in the feeling of love by deliberate inner attention.
- Loving-Kindness
A systematic practice of extending compassion and goodwill outward in concentric circles — from yourself, to those you love, to strangers, to those who have caused you pain, and finally to all living beings.
- Giving and Receiving
A practice of breathing in suffering and breathing out relief — the deliberate opening of the heart to what it would normally close against. It develops compassion, empathy, and selflessness by training the heart to be receptive to the pain of others and saturated enough with goodness to give freely in return. At its core it softens and dissolves the hardened heart, allowing it to enter a state of natural flow — giving and receiving, freely and without reservation.
- Ecstatic Chanting
Using melody, repetition, and fierce emotional intensity to override the analytical mind and open the heart completely. It does not matter what name or form you sing to — Jesus, Shiva, Mary, Krishna, Mother Earth. These are simply bridges to the Infinite. The practice depends entirely on the intensity of your devotion — transforming the heavy, gravity-bound energy of human longing into the liberating force of divine love.
