Input Control

the mental diet

Mind·Intellectual Body + Mental Body

Written by Desmond Olubunmi · Founder of Sunya

Essence

The content of the mind is not the truth — it is accumulated data. Every piece of information you take in shapes the fabric of your thinking, your emotional state, and through that, your energy. Controlling what you feed the mind is one of the most direct levers available: not dramatic, not esoteric, but quietly decisive.

Mechanism

The mind does not hold objective reality. It holds a partial, accumulated record of what you have personally encountered — and it builds your entire inner world from that record. What feels familiar or threatening, known or unknown, is determined entirely by what that record contains — not by the actual nature of things.

This same mechanism runs beneath the surface of daily life. The information you consume — the news, the conversations, the entertainment, the social media — directly shapes the thoughts that run through your mind, which influences your emotional state. And because

emotion is energy in motion, toxic input contracts the channels and drains the energy system in exactly the way chronic fear or anxiety does. What you consume is not neutral. It becomes you. Turning this mechanism around: when the inputs are consistently life-affirming, harmonious, and positive, the mind builds itself from different material.

It generates different thoughts and emotions, which open rather than contract the energy system. The mental body becomes a lens that transmits rather than distorts.

Protocol

  1. 01

Understanding the nature of the mind:

  2. 02

See the limitation: Step back and recognise that your mind is not the final word on anything. It is a database of past accumulations — limited, incomplete, always conditioned by the data it has gathered. It can never perceive the limitless.

When a strong judgment or negative thought arises, observe it and remind yourself: this is my accumulated programming speaking, not always the truth of the situation. This recognition is itself transformative. When the mind goes unchecked, it takes charge — and we mistake its thoughts for absolute reality.

Seeing the limitation of the mind gives thought its proper place: a useful but partial instrument, not the arbiter of truth.

  3. 03

Observe the boundary of memory: Notice how the mind classifies everything into known and unknown based solely on accumulated data. Anyone within the boundary of your memory — someone you hold information about — is experienced as known, perhaps familiar or trusted.

Anyone outside that boundary — someone your mind holds no record of — is experienced as unknown, perhaps suspicious or foreign. This is not a reading of reality. It is a filing system.

Recognise this mechanism in action, and then look at someone you consider a stranger and perceive the same life, the same awareness, the same fundamental existence that you recognise in your closest friend. When you are grounded in the formless dimension within yourself, you can meet people at that level — beyond the boundaries of what your memory holds.

  4. 04

    Managing what enters the mind:

  5. 05

The input audit: Take an honest inventory of what you are feeding your mind daily. Look at what you watch, read, listen to, and discuss.

Ask one question of each: does this create contraction — fear, anger, division — or expansion — peace, clarity, aliveness?

  6. 06

Guard the gates: Treat your attention as sacred territory. Cut out inputs that consistently generate contraction. Do not allow the mind to become a dumping ground for the world’s collective anxiety.

  7. 07

Build the positive fabric: Actively seek out knowledge, environments, and people that make you feel genuinely alive and clear. Feed the mind material that supports life. Over time, the architecture of the mind changes — and what it is built from determines what it naturally generates.

As the mental diet changes, the mind ceases to be an enemy or a prison of limitations — the negative patterns and illusions lose their grip because they are no longer being fed. Curated with care, the mental body becomes a transparent lens that expresses the highest intelligence of Life.
